Petrolatum-free
Petrolatum (petroleum jelly) is derived from petroleum and can clog pores. Unity Cosmetics uses plant-based alternatives.
What is it?
Petrolatum (also known as petroleum jelly or mineral oil) is a by-product of the petroleum industry. It is widely used in cosmetics and skincare for its occlusive (sealing) effect, which prevents moisture loss.
Why do we exclude it?
Petrolatum forms an impenetrable layer on the skin that can clog pores and impede the skin's natural breathing. If insufficiently refined, it can contain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which are considered possibly carcinogenic. We choose plant-based alternatives on principle.
What do we use instead?
Instead of petrolatum, we use plant-based butters and oils such as shea butter, cocoa butter and jojoba oil, which offer the same protective effect and also nourish the skin with vitamins and fatty acids.
Safe for you
Not a single Unity Cosmetics product contains petrolatum, petroleum jelly or mineral oil. Our formulas are 100% plant based.
