Formaldehyde-free
Formaldehyde is a well known allergen and carcinogen used as a preservative. Unity Cosmetics chooses formaldehyde-free alternatives.
What is it?
Formaldehyde and formaldehyde releasers (such as DMDM hydantoin, diazolidinyl urea and imidazolidinyl urea) are used as preservatives in cosmetics. They work by slowly releasing formaldehyde, which inhibits bacterial growth.
Why do we exclude it?
Formaldehyde is classified as a carcinogen by the World Health Organization. It is also one of the most common contact allergens and can cause skin irritation, eczema and respiratory problems even at low concentrations. The EU has set strict limits, but we choose to exclude it entirely.
What do we use instead?
We use modern, safe preservatives that don't release formaldehyde. Our formulas are developed to be effectively preserved without health risks.
